Binance Resumes Withdrawals After $6.3B Hack

$6.3 billion vanished from Binance in minutes. The FBI says North Korea’s TraderTraitor group did it.

How Binance is Securing Its Platform After the $6.3B Hack

Binance has resumed withdrawals for 15 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, after the largest crypto theft in history. The company is prioritizing user demand as it restores services in phases, with $4.6 billion in withdrawals processed so far.

The figure that matters: Binance is covering 90% of the losses using its Secure Assets Fund for Users, corporate treasury, and Futures insurance fund. The remaining 10% involves less liquid tokens, which are taking longer to source.

Investors will note that Binance has conducted security reviews, worked with law enforcement, and monitored risks following the breach. The company has also pledged to fully absorb the financial impact, ensuring users are not affected.

The stolen funds were moved out in about 20 minutes, highlighting the speed and sophistication of the attack. Binance co-CEO Richard Teng said the attackers gained access through a hacked laptop and used software to erase their tracks.

By the numbers: Tether, Circle, Ripple, and World Liberty Financial froze $2.67 billion in stablecoins, while Arbitrum’s Security Council froze an additional $2.7 billion in assets. Despite these efforts, the attackers still hold $2.4 billion in assets beyond recovery.

The bottom line: Binance is taking a cautious, phased approach to restoring services while strengthening security measures. Users can expect delays as the company completes security checks, but market conditions remain stable.

Binance has processed $1 billion in deposits since resuming operations, signaling continued trust from users. The company’s response underscores its commitment to user protection and platform integrity in the face of unprecedented challenges.
