Trump Media Moves $342M in Bitcoin to Crypto.com Ahead of Debt Deadline

Trump Media & Technology Group moved 4,259 bitcoin to the exchange Crypto.com on November 5, a transfer valued at roughly $342 million, according to blockchain data from Arkham and Lookonchain. The coins left wallets labeled as collateral for the company’s convertible notes in two batches of 2,140.03 BTC and 2,119.31 BTC at 02:17 UTC.

The figure that matters is the near-exact match to the 4,260.73 BTC the company disclosed as pledged collateral in its second-quarter filing. The loan indenture restricts withdrawals or distributions of that collateral until specific conditions are met or the notes mature in May 2028. Arkham data shows just over 1 bitcoin remaining in the labeled wallets.

The Debt Deadline

Noteholders have a liquidity window opening November 30, 2026, where they can demand up to $1 billion in cash repayment on zero-coupon convertible senior secured notes issued in May 2025. The notes carried a 4% original issue discount, netting the company $960 million in gross proceeds. If every eligible holder exercises the put right, Trump Media could owe about $1 billion plus accrued interest.

The company’s November 2 SEC filing warned that cash and available financing might not cover the full amount. Management listed refinancing, additional borrowing, and equity financing as potential remedies. If those steps fall short, the filing stated the company might need to “sell our bitcoin or other digital asset holdings” to fund the repurchases. A failure to complete required repurchases could trigger defaults under its debt agreements.

By the numbers: cash and short-term investments totaled about $425 million at June 30. The convertible notes convert to shares at roughly $34.72 each. DJT shares closed at a record low of $4.49 on Wednesday, making conversion unlikely for noteholders and increasing the probability of cash demands.

Custody Pattern

This is the third large transfer to Crypto.com in six months. In May 2026, wallets linked to the company sent roughly 2,650 BTC, worth about $205 million at the time. A spokesperson described that move as a transfer rather than a sale, part of a broader trading strategy. In early August, another 2,628 BTC, valued at roughly $165 million, followed; the company characterized it as custody management. Crypto.com has served as a custody partner alongside Anchorage Digital since Trump Media launched its bitcoin treasury strategy in May 2025.

A transfer to an exchange does not confirm an outright sale. On-chain analysts flagged the size of the latest flow while cautioning against reading it as a liquidation. “Is this the beginning of a BTC sell-off? For now, a transfer to an exchange or custodian doesn’t automatically mean the Bitcoin is being sold. Could be a custody move or something else entirely,” EyeOnChain wrote on X.

Market Context

DJT shares fell to their lowest level since the company went public following Democratic gains in the November 3 midterm elections. The stock’s decline coincides with a broader sell-off in Trump-linked tokens: TRUMP dropped nearly 21% to $1.25, MELANIA fell 13% to $0.063, and WLFI slid 11% to $0.047. The market capitalization of politically themed memecoins declined more than 16% to nearly $477 million, while trading volume surged 123% to $437 million.

Bitcoin was trading near $80,481 at the time of the transfer, having clawed back above $80,000 after dipping below that level earlier in the week.

Balance Sheet Exposure

The latest movement equals roughly 30% of the 14,139 BTC Trump Media reported holding, including pledged coins, as of July 31. That figure comes from an older disclosure and does not prove the company’s stash has shrunk. The June 30 filing listed 9,477.16 BTC as digital assets separate from pledged amounts, with a cost basis of $1.01 billion and a fair value of $557 million. Another 2,077.34 BTC was pledged for a bitcoin options strategy under which the counterparty could reuse the collateral.

The company reported a combined $360.65 million loss tied to digital assets and pledged assets in the first six months of 2026, and a $238.1 million net loss for the second quarter, partly reflecting falling values across its investments. Trump Media has not publicly commented on the purpose of the November 5 transfer.
