For crypto investors, the week ended with a simple math problem: money went into AI stocks, and it did not go into digital tokens. The result was a broad slide that left few major coins untouched. Dogecoin fell 9.6% to roughly $0.076.
Hyperliquid’s HYPE token dropped 9.9%. Ether lost 8.4%, settling near $1,581.
XRP declined 7.8% to $1.06. Even Bitcoin, the sector’s anchor, slipped about 5% before repeatedly bouncing off dips near $58,000. The selloff happened while the equal-weight S&P 500 hit a record.
That matters. It means the rally is broadening beyond the megacap tech stocks that dominated earlier this year.
But that broadening has not touched crypto. The party is in equities, specifically stocks tied to the artificial-intelligence boom. Think of it as a rotation.
Money that might have sat in digital assets moved toward AI names instead. The rotation out of chipmakers lifted much of the stock market, but crypto was not part of that lift. Solana and Tron held up better, roughly flat for the week at $72 and $0.32.
But flat is not a win when everything around you is bleeding. The practical upshot for everyday investors is straightforward.
Crypto remains under pressure from three forces: U.S. spot bitcoin ETF outflows, a hawkish Federal Reserve, and a strong dollar. Those forces are not new, but they are persistent. The Fed’s stance on interest rates continues to make riskier assets less appealing compared to the steady returns from AI-driven stocks.
Bitcoin’s repeated rebounds from dips near $58,000 suggest dip-buying is alive. Margin liquidations have been a factor, and aggressive buying has pushed the price back up each time it tested that level.
Whether that support holds is the key question for the days ahead. If it breaks, the floor could drop further. If it holds, the pattern of buying the dip may continue to provide a floor.
But holding support is not the same as a rally. The broader trend is downward, and the forces pushing it there are not going away quickly. The Fed shows no sign of softening its hawkish stance.
The dollar remains strong. ETF outflows continue.
And the AI trade shows no sign of cooling. For crypto, that is a bad combination. The week’s losses were not catastrophic in percentage terms.
A 5% to 10% decline is routine in crypto. But the context matters.
This happened while broad equity indexes hit new highs. Risk appetite exists. It just flows elsewhere.
That is the core problem for crypto right now. It is not that investors are scared. It is that they have a more attractive option.
AI stocks offer a narrative of growth tied to real earnings and real corporate spending. Crypto offers a narrative of speculation and hope.
When given the choice, money chose the former. What to watch next: Whether Bitcoin can hold its support near $58,000. If dip-buyers keep stepping in, the slide may be contained.
If they stop, the selloff could accelerate. For now, the party is in AI stocks.
Crypto is watching from outside.
