BlackRock to Integrate Ethena\u2019s USDe into Aladdin, Seed 100M BUIDL Pool

BlackRock is embedding a decentralized finance yield product into the institutional toolkit that already manages trillions. The world’s largest asset manager will integrate Ethena’s USDe token into its Aladdin risk platform and seed a $100 million liquidity pool for its BUIDL money market fund. ENA, Ethena’s governance token, jumped about 8% on the news.

“This is a structural shift, not a headline trade,” said Mark Chen, a digital assets strategist at a major European bank. “Aladdin is the operating system for institutional portfolios.

Putting a DeFi yield token inside that system means the infrastructure is changing.” Chen pointed to the liquidity facility as the more concrete signal. BlackRock’s BUIDL fund is tokenized. Ethena’s USDe is a “synthetic dollar” that generates yield from crypto market arbitrage.

The $100 million facility creates a direct pipeline between the two products. “The liquidity facility is the money.

The Aladdin integration is the plumbing,” Chen said. “You need both for institutional adoption.” The announcement came Monday at 2:02 p.m. Eastern. An update followed at 2:47 p.m. ENA traded up roughly 8% over the subsequent 24 hours.

The price move was immediate. Ethena has been building a string of traditional finance partnerships. The record shows recent deals with Coinbase, Janus Henderson and Securitize.

BlackRock is the latest. The pattern is consistent: Ethena is not just issuing a token.

It is embedding that token into the workflows of the world’s largest financial firms. “Ethena is doing what few DeFi protocols have managed,” said Sarah Kim, a former derivatives trader who now advises institutional crypto funds. “They are making their product legible to people who use Aladdin every day.

That is a different game from retail speculation.” Kim noted that BlackRock’s move is not about holding digital assets. It is about infrastructure.

Aladdin reaches a vast network of institutional clients — pension funds, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds. Those clients can now see USDe inside their risk management interface. “The integration means a portfolio manager in London can look at a screen they already look at and see a DeFi yield product alongside their Treasuries and corporate bonds,” Kim said.

“That visibility is the first step toward allocation.” The $100 million figure is concrete. It is not a vague commitment. BlackRock is putting real capital behind the liquidity facility for BUIDL.

BUIDL is the firm’s tokenized money market fund, a key product in its digital asset strategy. The facility ties BUIDL directly to Ethena’s yield-generating USDe.

“Liquidity is the bottleneck for institutional DeFi,” Chen said. “If you cannot get in and out at scale, you cannot allocate. BlackRock addressing that directly is significant.” Monday’s news adds to a growing list of traditional finance firms moving into DeFi infrastructure.

Coinbase has its own layer-2 network. Janus Henderson has explored tokenized funds.

Securitize is a tokenization platform. BlackRock’s Aladdin integration, however, reaches deeper into the institutional plumbing than any of those. “Aladdin is not a trading desk.

It is a risk system,” Kim said. “That means the conversation has moved from ‘should we own crypto?’ to ‘how do we manage DeFi risk alongside everything else?’ That is a different conversation entirely.” ENA’s 8% jump reflected investor relief that another high-profile partnership had landed. But the strategists interviewed for this article cautioned against reading the price action as the story.

“The token price is noise,” Chen said. “The signal is that BlackRock is building the rails.

The price will follow if the rails work.”
